Godly Play is a movement to influence the Churches’ support of spiritually rich practices with children and adults

  • Using religious language to make meaning
 A Godly Play session includes a time to:-
  • get ready
  • tell a story using objects and artefacts
  • explore the story more with open questions and discussion
  • respond with a free choice using a variety of materials – art… silence… play… writing…
  • enjoy a simple feast and sharing

Godly Play in Sheffield

There are several Godly Play rooms in Sheffield – for example at St. Stephen’s Netherthorpe, St. Mary’s Walkley & St. Mark’s Broomhill. As well as the St Peter's Resource Centre loan service, Godly Play objects can also be loaned from The Montgomery, Montgomery Hall, Surrey Street, Sheffield S1 2LG. Contact Dawn Reynolds (Faith and Communities Manager) at The Montgomery 

Resources are free to members (pay an annual fee of £20), £5 / lesson to non members. Both members and non members pay a £10 refundable deposit.

Whole lessons are available to borrow for a maximum of 2 weeks unless prior arrangements have been made.

Training and Grants

Kathryn Lord (Sheffield based) is an accredited trainer for Godly Play UK and offers support and training to churches and schools. We can highly recommend her 3 day course (and the delicious lunch!)
