Diocese announces key appointment of Assistant Principal for St Peter’s College

The Diocese of Sheffield is delighted to announce the appointment of the new Assistant Principal for St Peter's College and Director of Ongoing Ministerial Development.

The Revd Dr Bill Goodman will join the diocese as part of the St Peter’s College team. The role will develop a wide, deep and imaginative programme for the ongoing ministerial and missional learning for lay ministers/leaders and clergy across the Diocese, working in partnership with the Principal of St Peter’s College and Director of Formation for Ministry.

Bill trained for ordination at St John’s College, Nottingham.  Since ordination he has spent twelve years in full-time (urban) parish ministry, plus a few more in rural settings part-time, all in the midlands and Yorkshire.  There were also six memorable years as a mission partner in Ethiopia, helping train church leaders.  Along the way, an appetite for wrestling with the bible has drawn him to Sheffield for further studies.  Bill has been working as the Ongoing Ministerial Development Officer in the Diocese of Lincoln since 2014.

Bill has been shaped by a rich mix of experiences.  He loves relaxing and exploring with his family, especially on bikes, boats or walking boots; also enjoying music, keeping up with the news, and discovering new possibilities.

Speaking about his new appointment, Bill said:

“This part of the world means a lot to us as a family.  Over the years, it’s helped foster my passion for learning, and for enabling others to learn.  So I’m looking forward to finding out what God is doing here now, and joining in with it.”

Canon Dr Christine Gore, Principal of St Peter’s College, said:

“I am delighted that we have been able to appoint someone with Bill’s considerable experience and skills in not only in lifelong learning but also parish ministry, and I am greatly looking forward to working with him in supporting the ongoing ministerial development of both the clergy and laity who contribute so much to the life of the Church in our Diocese.”

Bill starts the role on 13 February 2017 and will be licensed by Bishop Peter Burrows on 28 February in Sheffield Cathedral as part of the Shrove Tuesday Lecture day.
