Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone's welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation. There is a set of excellent, free videos for each session with accompanying leaders' materials.
There are potentially 13 sessions which includes a weekend focussing on the Holy Spirit.
Pilgrim is a major teaching and discipleship resource from the Church of England. It aims to help every local church create a place where people can explore the Christian faith together and see how it can be lived out each day. Pilgrim takes a different approach to other Christian programmes. It approaches the great issues of faith not through persuasion, but participation in a pattern of contemplation and discussion with a group of fellow travellers.
Pilgrim is comprised of two stages: the Follow stage for those very new to faith, and the Grow stage for those who want to go further. Each stage contains four short six-session courses which focus on a major theme of Christian life.
Reflections on the Creed is a six-part series exploring the treasures of our faith as expressed in the Nicene Creed. Each session lasts approximately 35 minutes and features several interviews with prominent men and women of faith covering the following: Why we believe, How we believe, The Almighty Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit and the Church, The Coming Kingdom. Course pack contains DVDs, music and work booklets.
Why on earth…?
This is a lively collection of sessions for small groups. Each session gives an easy way into one of the hard questions of faith and includes a short, animated video. It takes seriously the group members’ own ideas and questions on the subject.
And it asks what difference these big questions make in the real world.
The course, initially compiled by Scripture Union in Australia is based on six studies from Mark's gospel. This 'manual' is a tried-and-tested tool for evangelism. It presents the challenge of Jesus in a way that is non-threatening and concentrates on the facts concerning the person and work of Christ. It begins with the assumption that the hearer knows absolutely nothing about Jesus or the Good News.
Christianity Explored is helping Christians around the world to introduce people to Jesus as they explore the Gospel of Mark. As part of this stunning redesign there is a boxed Leader's Kit that gives you video downloads alongside the course materials so that you can access the videos on your tablet, phone or laptop, making it possible to run Christianity Explored in a greater variety of settings. You can use it one-to-one, or in larger groups, in churches, or in homes. Pick up a Leader's Kit and run Christianity Explored with the people you want to introduce to Jesus.
Here you can choose from a glorious variety of discipleship resources for groups from many different publishers, all reviewed and rated to save you time. The Emmaus: Way of Faith resource is aimed at adults as is designed to help churches welcome people into the Christian faith and the life of the Church. It is rooted in an understanding of evangelism, nurture and discipleship that is modelled on the example of Jesus, as portrayed in the story of the Emmaus road.
The Emmaus collection includes; Contact - a practical, hands-on booklet that helps churches make the most of their connections with those outside the church., Nurture a 15-session course for enquirers and new Christians, Growth: covering four areas - Knowing God, Christian Lifestyle, Growing as a Christian and Your Kingdom Come.
Something we all need more of these days is good news, meaning and purpose, and direction in life. Finding any those is difficult. No one is born with an in-built roadmap to finding the shape their lives must take, and often never find places where they are free to ask the big questions of ‘Why am I here?’ or ‘How can my life find meaning?’.
Providing not just a curriculum for understanding Christianity, but also a space to think and discuss the deep, life-changing questions that quietly sit in the corner of the mind, the ‘Explored’ courses share a hope and way to meet Jesus. They offer people the chance to find other people dogged by the exact same questions, doubts, and thoughts of what it all means.
Christianity Explored asks people ‘What's the best news you've ever heard?’, and then challenges them to discover not just good news, but the best news.
Life Explored relates faith to personal meaning, to the hows and whys of existence and purpose. It seeks to challenge the feeble places we put our faith, and the empty idols our of modern worship, instead asking us to explore the aspects of God that can bring contentment to our deep desires, and calm the depths of our despair.
Discipleship Explored explores how to go forward in faith; to have Christianity be a part of who you are, and what that means. It is an eight-session exploration of the book of Philippians, that draws on the habits and aspects of a rewarding Christian life.
