Helen's Story

Helen's Story

About 4 years ago I began to have a feeling that God was calling me to go into ordained ministry and after a lot of prayer and discussion and speaking to Canon Burke, he suggested I speak to the DDO who advised that I look into the School of Ministry first.

I asked Canon Burke’s advice as to which path to go on and which would fit better with the Cathedral, and he suggested Evangelist.  I took that advice and enrolled on the Evangelist course.  I found the School to be very good and the lessons were split very well with enough time for refreshments and chilling.  I particular liked that we began the day with Eucharist.   I found some of the lessons a bit too academic, but I have passed all the assignments and found in the process that I have gained a love of reading about theology, which I continue to do.

I am at present waiting to be licenced and then to see how I can develop as a Lay Evangelist in the Cathedral.  I am starting an Art and Spirituality group in October and I have been asked to help with a new welcome/worship group aimed at parents and families starting in September.  I am also still discerning what the next step is, do I go on to do the final year as Reader?

I would recommend the School of Ministry to anyone who is interested in developing further ministry in whatever they wish to do.  If I can do it then anyone can!
