I have for some time, 3 years in fact, been thinking about training to become a lay reader.
Due to work commitments I have put it off, however in 2015 I felt it was time to start the training and with support from my incumbent and other church members I signed up for the course and after an interview was accepted.
I have just completed my first year at the school of ministry and have thoroughly enjoyed the modules. The breadth of subjects ranged from understanding the origins of the bible to mission and doctrine. While I have found some of the subjects harder to get into than others I have taken something from every one of them.
I am now looking forward to applying some of the new knowledge in my placement at a different church in the diocese.
