Leading the people of God into worship is a vital, skilled and sensitive role in any church. As a diocese we would want to nurture a foundation of personal worship, provide a biblical and historical background, deepen understanding of worship styles across the church, increase confidence in practical skills, help worship leaders to develop new expertise and to explore authentic worship for a mission-shaped church.
Firstly you should consult with your church leader to explore the current or potential opportunities. Then consder attending a Worship 4 Today Taster evening which are arranged well in advance of the course starting.
Apply for the Worship 4 Today course. Worship 4 Today is a highly successful course which has been used in Sheffield Diocese since 2007, where it runs for one academic year alongside other lay training. Fully revised and re-published during 2013 by Church House Publishing, the course is now receiving national and international recognition as a key training resource for all those involved in leading worship.
Written by experienced practitioners, Revd Helen Bent who has worked as the Bishop’s Adviser in Music and Worship in Sheffield Diocese, together with Liz Tipple, worship leader, teacher and professional musician, Worship 4 Today has proved a catalyst in many churches for renewed vision and direction in worship.
The course consists of eleven Sunday afternoon sessions from 1.45 – 5.15 pm and one full Saturday from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm (in May 2017). Each session will include teaching, discussion, group work and experiential learning.
